Yes, Neurofeedback is Safe for Children
As a parent, safety is your first concern — and rightfully so. Neurofeedback has been used with children for decades and is considered safe and well-tolerated. The sensors only read brain activity; they don't send anything into your child's brain. There are no known lasting side effects.
What It's Like for Kids
Most children actually enjoy neurofeedback sessions. Here's what a typical session looks like:
- Your child sits in a comfortable chair
- Small sensors are placed on the scalp (no pain, no gel mess)
- Your child watches a movie of their choice
- The movie responds to their brain activity — it plays normally when their brain is producing healthier patterns
- That's it! Sessions are 30 minutes
Children don't need to "try" to do anything or talk about their feelings. The brain does the learning automatically through the feedback process.
When to Consider Neurofeedback for Your Child
- Your child has been diagnosed with ADHD and you want to explore non-medication options
- Medication isn't working well or has unacceptable side effects
- Your child struggles with anxiety, sleep, or emotional regulation
- Your child has a history of trauma, adoption, or attachment difficulties
- Traditional therapy hasn't produced the changes you hoped for
- You want a natural complement to your child's current treatment
