Neurofeedback for ADHD

A Drug-Free Path to Better Focus & Attention

The American Academy of Pediatrics recognizes neurofeedback as a Level 1 "Best Support" treatment for ADHD — the same rating given to medication.

ADHD Treatment Without Medication in Charlotte

If you or your child has been diagnosed with ADHD, you know the daily challenges: difficulty focusing, impulsive behavior, restlessness, and the frustration that comes with feeling like your brain won't cooperate. Medication helps many people, but it's not the right fit for everyone — and many parents are looking for alternatives.

Neurofeedback offers a scientifically-supported, non-invasive option. Rather than masking symptoms with medication, neurofeedback trains the brain to develop healthier patterns of attention and self-regulation. The changes are lasting because the brain is actually learning new habits.

Did you know? The American Academy of Pediatrics rates neurofeedback as a Level 1 "Best Support" treatment for ADHD — the highest rating possible, equal to medication.

How Neurofeedback Helps ADHD

Research shows that people with ADHD often have an imbalance in brain wave activity — specifically, too much slow-wave (theta) activity and not enough fast-wave (beta) activity. This imbalance contributes to the hallmark symptoms of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.

During neurofeedback sessions, sensors placed on the scalp monitor brain activity in real time. As your brain shifts toward healthier patterns, you receive immediate feedback through a movie or visual display. Over time — typically 20 to 30 sessions — the brain learns to maintain these healthier patterns on its own.
