Therapy

Sally has been helping clients through various forms of therapy for over 30 years.  She is considered the foremost adoption, attachment and trauma therapist in the Charlotte area.

Sally began her counseling journey as an adoption specialist with Mecklenburg County for over six years. After witnessing the significant complications many of the children had and the impact on the adoptive families, she became inspired to research further into the areas of attachment and trauma. Sally spent hundreds of hours over the next several years attending conferences and workshops all over the country. Treatment in the Charlotte area was very limited and typically ineffective for this population of children identified as having Reactive Attachment Disorder. In addition to her full time work, Sally became a trainer for the Jordan Institute for Families at UNC-CH School of Social Work educating social workers in the state in the areas of best practice for child placement and adoption.

In 2001, Sally began private practice therapy focusing on adopted children and their families. She has continued receiving advanced training in this area based on the latest research and neuroscience. She was most recently trained in Neurofeedback after observing the results with children and adults with developmental trauma. She now combines this modality with Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy and Trauma Resiliency and continues pursuing advanced training.

Develop Useful Coping Skills

"Sally has helped us identify our daughter's complicated issues and was able to provide other needed resources and collaborates with them frequently. She has supported us with parenting a special needs child and helped her to develop useful coping skills. As we were writing this, our daughter chimed in, 'Ms. Sally does whatever she can to help me with my troubles, even when it's hard to help me. She is my good friend and I trust her with my feelings.'"
